Evergreen Chapter

Chapter # 288

Who or What is the Evergreen Chapter?

We are a group of Professionals employed or interested in the Information Technology industry. We come from large corporations and from small companies. We work on water-cooled mainframes and stand-alone PCs. But we hold a common desire to understand the forces that the employment of technology puts on our companies and to gain the skills needed to make that technology work for our companies.

We generally meet on the third Thursday of each month for dinner and a speaker. In this informal atmosphere, we exchange knowledge and gain skills in state of the art technology and management of that technology.

Our format is a "social hour" from 6 PM to 7 PM where we swap answers, fish stories, and contacts. This is followed by dinner. We often refer to the banquet dinner as food "of an unknown origin," but it is not for a five-star meal that we gather (and as much as we discuss it, the repast has gotten much, much better over the years). And about 8 PM, we gather around for an industry speaker presentation lasting 30 to 45 minutes including questions and answers.

Our Chapter has a long history of providing educational opportunities for our members. These range from our monthly speaker's introduction to a wide range of topics, technical information in our monthly publication -- The Random Access, our quarterly publication -- Tech Notes, providing shortcuts and fixes for your day-to-day use, and half-day and day-long seminars providing detailed instruction on a topic germane to today's industry.

Our Chapter is one of two in the Puget Sound basin, the other is the Puget Sound Chapter (See our Links page). Each year we hold a couple of meetings as joint sessions with the Puget Sound Chapter.

Chapters from Alaska through San Francisco and Hawaii through Montana form the "Northwest Region" -- Region 2 -- of the Association of Information Technology Professionals. Chapters of AITP exist in most states , Canada, Europe, and Brazil. The Association's headquarters are in Park Ridge, Illinois, just outside Chicago.
